Known by God. Loved by His People.

Christian love is more than words. It is love put into action. At Grace Community Church Grassie, we believe that the love of Jesus Christ should be seen in the way we care for the people around us. The CARE ministry exists to serve our neighbours in practical, compassionate, and meaningful ways, demonstrating the love that God has shown us through His Son, Jesus Christ. Whether someone is facing a difficult season, feeling isolated, struggling to meet everyday needs, or simply needs a helping hand, we want them to know that they are not forgotten and that their lives matter.

What Does CARE Look Like?

We are beginning with the simple things that can make a real difference in someone's life. Depending on the need and the availability of our volunteers, this may include providing rides to medical appointments, visiting those who are lonely or isolated, helping with laundry, assisting with grocery shopping, providing food and essential supplies, and responding to other practical needs as we are able. Sometimes care means filling a pantry; sometimes it means helping with an ordinary household task; and sometimes it simply means sitting with someone, listening, and reminding them that they are not alone.

Starting Small. Serving Faithfully.

We are building this ministry one relationship at a time. Rather than promising more than we can deliver, we want to begin faithfully, learn the needs of our community, and grow as God provides the people and resources. We will work to connect those who need help with members of our church who are willing to serve, offering practical assistance with compassion, respect, and discretion. Our goal is not simply to respond to an immediate need, but to build relationships in which people feel seen, valued, and cared for.

The Love of Christ at the Heart of Everything

Our motivation is the gospel. We love because God first loved us, and Jesus Christ gave Himself for sinners so that all who trust in Him might receive forgiveness and eternal life. We want our service to reflect His compassion while remaining faithful to His truth. We will never assume that meeting a practical need can replace a person's deepest need for reconciliation with God. As opportunities arise, we want to listen, pray, speak about Jesus, and share the good news of salvation through Him—with gentleness, sincerity, and without making practical assistance conditional on someone's response to the gospel.

Jesus taught us to love our neighbours, to show mercy, and to serve others in His name. CARE is one way we seek to live that calling out in our community.

How You Can Support CARE

Practical love takes people, time, and resources. As CARE grows, we want to be ready to respond to the everyday needs of our neighbours in Grimsby, Grassie, and the surrounding community. You can help us do that through financial giving, donations of essential items, volunteering your time, or helping us connect people with the resources they need. Every contribution, whether large or small, can help us demonstrate the love of Jesus in a tangible way.

1. Give Financially

Financial gifts allow us to respond to needs as they arise, purchase groceries and essential supplies, help with transportation costs, and provide practical assistance when someone is facing a difficult season.

2. Donate Food and Essential Items

We welcome donations of appropriate, unopened, unexpired items that can help individuals and families meet everyday needs. Items we hope to provide include:

  • Food and pantry staples: Canned vegetables and fruit, soups, beans, pasta, rice, cereal, oatmeal, peanut butter, cooking oil, shelf-stable milk, and other nutritious essentials.

  • Personal hygiene products: Soap, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, feminine hygiene products, and other basic toiletries.

  • Laundry and household supplies: Laundry detergent, dish soap, cleaning products, garbage bags, sponges, and paper products.

  • Everyday necessities: New socks, seasonal essentials, and other basic household items when a need arises.

  • Emergency food support: Grocery staples and ready-to-prepare food for individuals and families experiencing an unexpected hardship.

We will prioritize items based on current community needs and our available storage. Please contact us before donating large quantities or bulky items.

3. Donate Gift Cards

Gift cards help us respond flexibly and respectfully to specific needs. They allow us to provide practical assistance when purchasing particular items or covering a necessary expense.

Especially helpful are:

  • Grocery store gift cards to help with food purchases.

  • Gas station gift cards to help offset the cost of travel to medical appointments, grocery shopping, and other essential destinations.

  • Pharmacy gift cards for eligible everyday health and personal-care necessities.

  • Laundry service gift cards where access to laundry facilities is a challenge.

  • General retail gift cards for essential clothing and household needs.

Gift cards will be distributed according to assessed needs and available resources.

4. Give Your Time and Skills

Are you a member of Grace, or our sending church in Mississauga? If so, and you have passed your security clearance, some of the most meaningful gifts cannot be put in an envelope or placed on a shelf. They are the gifts of time, attention, and a willingness to serve.

We are looking for people who may be able to help with:

  • Transportation: Volunteer drivers for medical appointments, grocery shopping, and other essential trips, subject to appropriate screening and safety procedures.

  • Visitation and companionship: Spending time with people who are lonely, isolated, elderly, or going through a difficult season.

  • Shopping and errands: Helping someone obtain groceries or other necessities when they cannot easily do so themselves.

  • Laundry assistance: Helping with laundry or arranging access to suitable laundry facilities.

  • Food and supply preparation: Sorting donations, organizing supplies, preparing grocery hampers, and delivering essentials.

  • Practical household help: Assisting with manageable everyday tasks when volunteers have the ability and appropriate skills.

  • Administration and coordination: Helping organize requests, schedule volunteers, track donations, and connect people with appropriate community resources.

  • Prayer and encouragement: Praying for our neighbours and offering compassionate, Christ-centered encouragement.

You do not need to do everything. Even a few hours, an occasional delivery, or a willingness to check in on someone can make a meaningful difference.

Help Us Build a Ministry That Can Respond

As this ministry develops, we will need more than donations and willing hands. We will need the practical resources that make dependable care possible. These may include fuel support for volunteer drivers, grocery and essential-supply funds, storage bins and shelving, food-safe containers, laundry supplies, delivery bags, administrative materials, and resources for coordinating volunteers safely.

We will also need people willing to help identify unmet needs in our community, build relationships with local organizations, and connect neighbours with services beyond what our church can provide. We want to grow responsibly, steward every donation faithfully, and make sure the resources entrusted to us are used to serve people well.

* Support the Mission Through Prayer

Above all, pray for the people we serve, the volunteers who give their time, and the opportunities God provides to show Christ's compassion. Pray that practical acts of care will open doors for meaningful relationships, conversations about the gospel, and opportunities to point people to the hope found in Jesus Christ. Our desire is not simply to distribute supplies or complete tasks. We want to love people as those made in God's image, treat them with dignity, and faithfully share the good news of the Saviour who gave Himself for us.

Every act of service is an opportunity to make the love of Jesus visible. Whether you give, volunteer, donate supplies, or pray, you can help us care for our neighbours in Christ's name.

Could You Use a Helping Hand?

If you or someone you know could benefit from practical assistance, we invite you to reach out. We cannot promise to meet every need, but we are willing to listen, consider what may be possible, and seek ways to help.
